Sense a theme?
I love me some ice cream. And not just in the summer. I’ve been known to grab a scoop or two in the middle of some of the worst of our Canadian winter days. So what the heck does ice cream have to do with tahini brownies? Everything! Because what goes better with ice cream than a brownie? A tahini brownie!
Tahini is one of those magical ingredients that goes with just about everything. Want to kick a boring old salad up a notch? Drizzle it with tahini. Want to jazz up a bowl of oatmeal? Dollop on some tahini. Want to spice up the usual ‘ol brownie (not that there is anything wrong with a classic brownie) mix in some tahini.
I preached my love for this sesame seed spread when we shared our no bake tahini and oat balls. But tahini deserves all the love! So when I was craving a sweet treat one day – I scoured mr. google and came up with these. Perfect to accompany your summer ice cream fix.
These brownies are probably the easiest brownies you will ever make. One bowl, no melting of butter and chocolate. In fact, no butter at all. Just like the peanut butter in our peanut butter bars, the tahini does the trick of adding that necessary fat and rich flavour to these chocolate squares. Just be careful not to over bake, you don’t want to lose that gooeyness factor (that’s a word, right?). If you like fudgy brownies, these were made for you. And if you don’t, we can no longer be friends.
These brownies aren’t uber sweet and have this subtle “je ne said quoi” from that magical tahini. They also make the perfect afternoon snack and would be great to send along with your kids to school or camp. Nut free for the win! They also freeze incredibly well and I actually prefer them straight from the freezer. If you haven’t tasted a brownie straight from the freezer than you really haven’t lived.
Have a pint of vanilla ice cream in the freezer screaming to be used a la mode? Make these!
