We are three days in to 2019 – how’s it going so far?
Me? I’m in sunny Florida so my year is off to a pretty darn good start.
As the new year approaches, I always look forward to reading what experts believe will be the top food trends of the upcoming year. And not so surprisingly, the beautiful cauliflower is up on the list.
Cauliflower appears to be taking over the world. Did you know cauliflower can be morphed into any carb containing food – rice, crackers, bread, pretzels, you name it. Seriously, cauliflower pretzels – google it, it’s a thing.
Now look, I love cauliflower as much as the next person, maybe even a little teensy bit more. But I’m sorry, pureed cauliflower with some egg and cheese does not equal bread. I mean, hello crusty and delicious no knead bread?! Let’s see cauliflower do that!
Sure, we may have jumped on the cauliflower pizza crust bandwagon in our early blogging days, but the 8 bread-less days of Passover call for some dire measures. But let’s be very clear – cauliflower pizza (or bread or rice or pretzels) does not equal the real deal. Period. You want cauliflower, eat cauliflower. You want pizza, eat pizza. Let’s not confuse the two. Okay – rant over!
So after all that, I bring you a recipe for Sesame Cauliflower Bites. I was going to call them Cauliflower Wings, like our Buffalo Cauliflower variety, but are they a replacement for chicken wings? Absolutely not. Are they an excellent vegetarian option, party snack, or dinner side? Absolutely yes! These little cauliflower nuggets are coated in a simple batter of water and flour, baked in a screaming hot oven and then doused with a sweet and sticky sesame sauce that will have you reminiscing of your favourite chicken wings.
Got a vegetarian friend coming for dinner? Make these. Want a fun and unique appetizer? Make these. Want to stay on top of the latest food trend, then make these.
Kale is out, cauliflower is in. 2019 we are ready for you!
