Sheet Pan Grilled Cheese!! EEP! Not to toot my own horn, but I’m a bloody genius.
You know us and sheet pans, if there’s a will, there’s a way. And if there’s even the slightest way of simplifying a recipe, we will do it. And cooking grilled cheese on a sheet pan? Could not be easier!
The idea came to me after the success of our Sheet Pan Quesadillas. I will never make a quesadilla in a pan again. Ever. And now I can say the same thing for grilled cheese. Want to feed a crowd? Sheet Pan Grilled Cheese. Having a gaggle of hungry 5 year olds over? Sheet Pan Grilled Cheese. Planning a Valentine’s Day party? Nothing says love more than a pile of grilled cheese sandwiches.
Now, never one to leave well enough alone, I had to fancy these babies up a little. So, we’ve partnered once again with Ontario Apple Growers to bring you these sweet and salty sammies. I grew up eating open faced apple and cheddar toasts. I had this kids cookbook and I still remember that recipe – bread, apple slices, cheddar cheese. And since then, I can’t get that combo out of my head. Layer on some sweet caramelized onions and sharp arugula and you are on your way to flavour town.
And here’s my secret to the crispiest and crunchiest grilled cheese sandwich you will ever eat – mayo. That’s right, mayo. Not on the inside as a schmear, but on the outside in place of the butter. It makes the bread crisp up just perfectly. It may sound weird but trust me, once you try it you will never go back.
My new favourite party trick – sheet pan grilled cheese! Prepare to wow your party guests!
